During FAWM 2012, the lyrics to this song made the rounds. The lyrics by Duane Clancy are fun and campy, and were posted to the community tagged as 'Country'. Errol (of the band Debs and Errol) wanted to write music for them, but couldn't write a country song, so he wrote a love ballad. Another musicians, Sapient, turned it into a black metal song. And so it went, with people taking the lyrics and reinterpreting them in their own style, or challenging others to put their spin on it.
Sapient called me out to put my 'Industrial Stomp' sound to the track. If Sapient calls you to task, you get to work.
lyrics
Sittin’ on the couch, watch a movie on the TV
On a cool February eve, Had to turn it down,
there was a sound outside, I couldn’t hear it o’er the vee
Like a growlin’ and a barkin, There must have been one Hell of a fight
So I threw on my boots, And headed into the night
Wish I’d stayed where I had been
Dog’s messin’ with a skunk again
(Chorus)
You know he never learns his lesson
There’s no way to tone it down
He foams at the mouth
Rubs his face on the ground
Ain’t no way to win
He’s messin’ with a skunk again
(Verse)
I take him in the bathtub, wash the oil out the fur
I’ll use whatever I find, I’ll mix up buttermilk, (breathe)
orange juice, canned tomatoes, Arm-n-hammer, and hydrogen peroxide
But no matter how much smell, You wash on down the pipes
There’s always plenty left, To smell for a fortnight
Wish I’d stayed where I had been
Dog’s messin’ with a skunk again
(Chorus)
You know he never learns his lesson
There’s no way to tone it down
He foams at the mouth
Rubs his face on the ground
Ain’t no way to w in
He’s messin’ with a skunk again
(Verse)
Had to set the pet gates, move his bowl outside
And cover the bed and couch
Can’t take the chance that he might jump up
Cause you can’t just wash it out
I’m afraid it’s just the way he is, It happens every spring
When the critters get all twitter-pated, You know he’ll snap at anything
Wish I’d stayed there on the couch
Dog’s messin’ with a skunk again
(Chorus)
You’d think he’d learn his lesson
There’s no way to tone it down
He’ll foam at the mouth
Rub his burnin’ eyes on the ground
Ain’t no way to win
He’s messin’ with a skunk again
