Written during 50/90 2010 and remixed in the winter of 2012. It started life as a song about taking a break from song writing. Kinda meta. I was half way through my first 50/90 challenge, but I was balancing work and mixing the first Really Good Pot Roast Album 'Serious as a Heart Attack'. So I wrote a song about songwriting, and stepping away from it for a bit.
lyrics
I'm taking the night off
Finishing up and heading out
Think I'm gonna write this off
Closing up and moving out
I can hear the playback
Listen to the back beat Wonder if
I should add a clap track
I think we got what it needs
I'm gonna take the night off
I'm gonna take the night off
Won't say I got better to do
Only different but the same
Won't say I won't come back to you
Not different but not the same
I need to hear the playback
Need to hear the backbeat filling in
Need to check the high hat
I think you know what I need
I'm gonna take the night off
I'm gonna sit back and listen in
I'm gonna take the night off
Checking out to dig on in
I'm gonna take the night off
Forgive me, dear
The message clear
I've got too much on my plate
But it's getting pretty late
I'm gonna take the night off
I'm gonna sit back and listen in
I'm gonna take the night off
Checking out to dig on in
I'm gonna take the night off
I'm gonna take the night off
